Ammon News - A delegation from Mercy Corps and European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) on Thursday visited Al-Mu'tasim Basic School for Boys and Khawla Bint Al-Azwar Basic School for Girls in Amman, within the framework of the girl inclusive education program to see the level of teaching services provided to students with disabilities in Jordan's public schools.

In a statement, Mercy Corps said it is implementing this program in 60 Jordanian public schools, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, in accordance with the ten-year national strategy for inclusive education.

To date, Mercy Corps provided inclusive education opportunities for more than 1,700 students with disabilities, and appointed and trained 244 support teachers on inclusive education curricula and other learning support services, the statement said.

The delegation reviewed many learning services provided in basic schools with the European Union's support, carried out by focus group discussions with teachers supporting inclusive education, school principals and regular classroom instructors, the statement added.

In addition, the tour featured focus group discussions with disabled pupils, who received rehabilitation and support equipment, their parents, rehabilitation specialists and regular students, according to the statement.

During the visit, the delegation checked on the resource rooms set up by Mercy Corps in schools to support children with different disabilities in advancing their educational path.
