Ammon News - National Centre for Agricultural Research (NCAR) Director-General Nizar Haddad on Monday discussed with Director-General of the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands (ACSAD) Nasr El Din Obeid ways of enhancing cooperation in the agricultural fields, particularly in the areas of wheat, barley and ruminants and building capacities.
Haddad praised the level of cooperation with ACSAD, which includes raising an improved herd of camels at Al-Khanasri Livestock Research Station as the nucleus for scientific research in the fields of genetic improvement, artificial insemination and production of camel meat and milk, as well as finding solutions to challenges facing the sector.
He said that the herd of camels comes from local and regional sources with the aim of advancing investment in the sector, given its economic value, especially for small enterprises.
Haddad pointed out that NCAR has been conducting experimental research on camels for three years to prop up the sector and enhance investment opportunities and cooperation in it, noting that the Jordanian desert is a suitable environment for breeding camels.
Al-Obaid, for his part, said that ACSAD seeks to pool regional and Arab efforts to develop agricultural research in arid and semi-arid areas, exchange data and expertise, transfer and localize modern agricultural techniques to increase production, in addition to addressing challenges posed by dry environments with fragile agricultural systems, and climatic change in the Arab region.
