Ammon News - Jordanian date exports, especially of Majhool dates, to international markets increased by more than 50 percent, following a spike in global demand.

Anwar Haddad, Head of the Jordan Dates Association (JDA) highlighted farmers' and the Ministry of Agriculture's interest in the sector, noting that the latter supported the JDA's promotional activities for Jordanian dates, including participating in international and local exhibitions and promotional campaigns on social media platforms.

Haddad said that within the framework of supporting the dates sector, three Jordanians who have influenced the local, Arab and regional palm sector will be honored at the 7th International Date Festival slated for March in Abu Dhabi. He underlined that that Jordanian producers utilize the best technologies in the field production and marketing of dates.

For his part, Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture for Marketing Hazem Smadi told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that 9,000 tons of dates were exported in the current year compared to about 6,000 tons in the same period of previous years.

Smadi pointed out that the local consumption per capita increased from 1.5 kilos of dates during the year to 3.3 kilos, adding that the number of palm trees reached 650,000 on an area of 45,000 dunums and producing a total of 30,000 tons of different varieties.
