26-02-2022 08:31 PM

Ammon News - The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) has participated in a joint Euro-Mediterranean workshop titled: "Innovation & Impact: Good Practices in Energy Efficiency for Buildings in Mediterranean cities" organized by three flagship European projects, namely SEACAP 4 SDG, MeetMED and Efficient Buildings Community.

The online workshop mainly addressed decision-makers, local authorities as well as local, regional and national energy agencies and has represented the opportunity to present a panorama of replicable tools and methodologies in the field of energy efficiency for buildings.

The RSS said in a press release Saturday that 6 working groups were formed during the online workshop where participants from beneficiary countries including Jordan discussed and explored the needs of their cities and investigated the transferability and concrete application of the proposed solutions at territorial level.

Moreover, RSS participated in the online launching of the SEACAP 4 SDG project; that aims to find innovative solutions and tools to reduce energy consumption in public buildings through cost-effective approaches to energy refurbishment, integrating Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans and innovative support mechanisms for Cities.

RSS mentioned that SEACAP 4 SDG project will work on the inputs and outcomes of 14 selected reference projects financed within different EU Initiatives (ENI CBCMED, INTERREG MED, UfM), identifying characteristics to be generalized and by adapting gained knowledge to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of energy refurbishment strategies adapted to local Mediterranean specificities.

RSS stated that these outputs and outcomes will be implemented in 9 cities around the Mediterranean (selected through a Call for interest to be launched in March 2022).

RSS indicated that there will be a specific capacity building mechanism and training activities to support the selected cities in adapting and implementing the tools and methodologies for further replication and capitalization.

The project is led by Euromed Cities Network / Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis (France) and in partnership with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Egypt, University of Patras in Greece, Naples Agency for Energy and Environment (ANEA) in Italy, Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC), Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya (IREC) in Spain, Institut Valencia de l’Edificacio (IVE) in Spain, Mediterranean Renewable Energy Centre (MEDREC) as well as the Royal Scientific Society / National Energy Research Centre in Jordan.
