Downdetector confirms 86% of the reports are for the website. "Tweet replies won't load #TwitterDown," one said. Another added: "Twitter down on desktop websites." *MIRROR

Thousands of users are reporting outages and issues with social networking site Twitter.

Many on social media said they were having problems, with one saying: "Twitter just went down crashing..."

Multiple users screenshot error messages saying "something went wrong, try reloading".

The issues appear to be affecting the website rather than the app, according to user reports.

Downdetector confirms 86% of the reports are for the website.

"Tweet replies won't load #TwitterDown," one said.

Another added: "Twitter down on desktop websites."
