Ammon News - Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center, Spanish Ambassador to Jordan, Aranzazu Banon Davalos, and European Union Ambassador to Jordan Maria Hadjitheodosiou signed a cooperation agreement with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), funded by the European Trust Fund.

The agreement, which is slated to last for two years, comes to support efforts of the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP) and King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) to raise level of primary care services for non-communicable diseases for Jordanians and Syrian refugees in Jordan by organizing women-based activities in several governorates countrywide and spreading awareness in breast cancer prevention.

Princess Ghida expressed appreciation for the "strategic" partnership with the AECID and European Trust Fund and its role in supporting Jordan, which would contribute to improving level of health care and spreading women-oriented awareness on the importance of cancer prevention.

For her part, Hadjitheodosiou stressed the EU's keenness to provide the necessary support to all women in Jordan to have opportunities for early cancer detection, which would ensure the best future treatment results.

Hadjitheodosiou also hoped success of this project in engaging the local community in the process of raising awareness and bringing about behavioral change, in outreaching the community as a whole.

Meanwhile, Spanish envoy said raising societal awareness, changing social behaviors, and advocating for the early detection of breast cancer, are the primary tools aimed to improving access to basic health care for women.

Spain's work with Jordanian civil society and the government, in its capacity as a "close and committed" partner for Jordan, is the "best way forward" in strengthening public services for all and addressing effects of the Syrian crisis, according to Davalos.
