Ammon News - Director General of the Jordan Cooperative Corporation (JCC), Abdel Fattah Shalabi, on Wednesday, discussed with the Italian expert at Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (MAIB), Paolo Fiume, the implementation of an agricultural project that serves a number of Jordanian cooperative societies.
Shalaby stressed the JCC's readiness to provide any "possible" facilitations for any project implemented by any world organization to serve Jordan's cooperative societies.
In addition, Shalaby lauded MAIB's projected plans to implement a "pioneering" agricultural project in partnership with JCC, highlighting its importance to support agricultural and cooperative sectors.
Fiume, for his part, said the project to stimulate small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and support their efforts to increase their competitiveness and sustainable creativity, with the support of the Italian Agency For Development Cooperation (AICS), seeks to cultivate 6 crops in the Kingdom: almonds, pomegranates, cacti, guavas, sesame, and dates.
This project will deal with the crop post-harvesting stage, which includes packaging and food processing by providing modern equipment for this purpose, Fiume pointed out.
Fiume added that a MAIB team will carry out field tours on a number of Jordanian cooperative societies that will benefit from the project after JCC provides details on their members and activities.
To further push cooperation, Fiume noted MAIB will work to network Italian and Jordanian farmers to benefit from joint expertise in this field, which would help the Kingdom's agricultural sector.
