Ammon News - For the second straight day, the Lower House Tuesday debated the 2022 draft state budget and the budget of government units with political, administrative and economic reform and the challenge of Covid-19 topping the discussion.
During today's session, which was chaired by Speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi and attended by cabinet ministers, some 17 lawmakers who took the floor were unanimous in their demands for an economic recovery strategy, addressing the "chronic" budget deficit, indebtedness and rising unemployment and poverty, a roadmap to attract investment, better services and wage raises for workers and pensioners.
MPs spoke of the need to forge ahead with political, administrative and economic reform programs with clear goals and a political will to revamp the "administrative reality of institutions."
They also urged a reconsideration of the fuel pricing mechanism, introduction of comprehensive health insurance, reduction of water loss, improved health services, continued in-class education despite a surge in Covid cases, support of the agricultural and tourism sectors and fairness in Civil Service Commission appointments.
