Ammon News - Lower House Speaker, Abdul Karim Dughmi, discussed with British Ambassador to Jordan, Bridget Brind, ways to develop bilateral relations in all fields.

According to a LH statement on Sunday, Dughmi stressed "deep-rooted, friendly" relations between the two kingdoms, and the importance of enhancing joint cooperation and coordination to serve common interests, and in a way that contributes to achieving the region's security and stability.

Dughmi also briefed Brind on Jordan's path of political, economic and administrative reform currently being implemented, under the Royal directives.

Referring to Parliament's recent endorsement of constitutional amendments, he said the Lower House will soon begin debating the two elections and parties draft laws, adding that Jordan is proceeding on the path of reform, development and modernization.

On the Palestinian issue, Dughmi stressed that the Palestinian cause is "at the top of Jordan's foreign priorities, reflected in Amman's unaltered positions."

Jordan, he said, will continue to uphold its unaltered stances in defending the justice of the Palestinian cause, Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian sanctities and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national soil.

Dughmi also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the refugee-hosting countries, pointing out that Jordan received the "largest" number of refugees despite its lack of resources and capabilities, especially from neighbouring Syria.

Burdens and requirements that emerged from Jordan’s hosting of refugees exacerbated its economic, social and security challenges, he noted.

For her part, the British envoy said her country "highly" appreciates Jordan's "remarkable" role , under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, to achieve the region's security and stability.

The diplomat also pointed to the Kingdom's "key" role in bearing the refuge-related burdens.

Affirming her country's support for Jordan's efforts in the refugee file, Brind stressed the need to continue bilateral meetings with various partners on the outcomes of the London Conference, aimed to support Amman in this regard.

This role comes within the framework of London's and international community's appreciation of Jordan's role towards refugees, the diplomat said.

With regard to the Palestinian issue, the British envoy said her country's position "primarily focuses on supporting the two-state solution that reflects the position announced by the British government, which London sees as a guarantee of the region's security and stability."

In a separate meeting, Dughmi met with Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Jordan, Randa Abul-Hassan.

Dughmi said Jordan values UNDP's efforts and its program to support Jordan in all fields, indicating that Jordan is looking forward to more "constructive" cooperation in various fields.

For her part, Abul-Hassan presented the UNDP's activities and projects implemented in Jordan, especially in institutional support aimed to provide technology, equipment and expertise to local institutions, stressing the UNDP's keenness to cooperate with the Parliament in various fields.
