FAO workshop on survey tools, operational information exchange kicks off

Ammon News - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Jordan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, on Sunday launched a workshop entitled Survey Tools and Operational Information Exchange and Support Materials.

The tool for operational control and information exchange with both the World Organisation for Animal Health and the World Health Organisation had been developed to support local authorities in their efforts to establish and strengthen a coordinated multi-sectoral system for monitoring and exchanging data on zoonoses, according to a FAO press release.

FAO representative in Jordan Nabil Assaf said that animal health is entirely linked to food security and nutrition and the achievement of many sustainable development goals, especially those related to improving production, eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring a healthy life for all, and managing risks at the level of interaction between animals, humans and plants.

For his part, FAO Assistant Secretary-General for Livestock Ali Abu Nukta said that the Agriculture Ministry is preparing a database on the application of the monitoring and data sharing tool within a coordinated system by various health authorities for the purpose of exchanging information on common diseases and making improvements in frameworks, strategies and policies to combat them, and promptly identifying common diseases inside Jordan, as well as supporting coordinated prevention, response and control efforts.

The three-day workshop was held under the patronage of Agriculture Minister Khaled Hnaifat with the participation of stakeholders and government partners.
