FM starts US visit

Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Monday started a working visit to the United States.

In his visit, Safadi is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, senior administration officials in the US State Department and the National Security Council, members of the House of Representatives and Senate, and research and academic organizations and centers.

Safadi will discuss a number of issues, including ways to enhance strategic ties between Jordan and the United States in various fields.

Talks will focus on the new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the two countries are working on, as the current MoU expires at the end of September 2022, while this MoU represents the framework governing the provision of annual US aid to Jordan, which amounted to about $1.6 billion last year.

During his Washington visit, the foreign minister will also discuss regional issues of common interest, foremost of which are efforts to find a political horizon for resolving the Palestinian issue and achieving a just peace on the basis of the two-state solution, and efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
