Ammon News - President of the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA), Hamdi Tabba'a, and the Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan, Samir Marzouk, discussed economic relations and future prospects for investment opportunities, and ways to develop relations between the two countries' business communities.

According to a JBA statement issued Wednesday, Tabba'a affirmed the association's keenness to enhance Jordan's economic, trade and investment relations with other countries and promote the Kingdom's "important" investment opportunities, which can be turned into "successful" projects.

Tabba'a noted the joint Jordanian-Egyptian Business Council, established in 1985, seeks to overcome the obstacles facing the increase of the volume of the two countries' trade exchange by promoting joint investment opportunities and networking their business communities.

Egypt is a key trading partner to Jordan due to its investments, he said, lauding the "productive" Egyptian labor that works in Jordan's various sectors.

Tabba'a also expressed hopes to increase volume of Egyptian investments benefiting from Jordan Investment Law in the "near future," stressing that the Jordanian-Egyptian-Iraqi tripartite summit, which was held in Baghdad last June, contributed to supporting joint relations and discussing investment opportunities.

Tabba'a called on the Egyptian private sector to get acquainted with Jordan's investment opportunities, as a "safe" destination for investment and as an economy that provides many investment opportunities.

For his part, the Egyptian envoy lauded the two countries' "deep-rooted, historic, fraternal" and economic relations, stressing the embassy's readiness to cooperate with the JBA with the aim of advancing bilateral ties towards "broader" horizons and overcoming any obstacles in this regard.

The two countries are willing to continue strengthening economic relations, especially in the tourism fields, which need to be jointly promoted, stressing the need to implement the two leaderships' visions by inking joint agreements and pushing ties to higher levels in all aspects.

The envoy also said the recent visit of His Highness Crown Prince to Cairo had a "remarkable" impact on increasing the level of economic and tourism cooperation.

The volume of Jordan-Egypt trade exchange amounted to JD738.2 million at the end of 2020, with Jordanian exports amounting to JD141.9 million, concentrated in fertilizers, chemicals and pharmaceutical products, while Jordanian imports amounted to JD596.3 million, mainly mineral fuels, mineral oils, fruits and dairy products, per gov't data.
