Ammon News - Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Hanandeh, said the gov't legislative and regulatory system to support cybersecurity had a "remarkable" impact on improving the Kingdom's rank by 3 places on the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), issued by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), making Jordan 71st out of 193 participating countries.

The announcement came during a meeting of Hanandeh and Youth Minister, Mohammad Nabulsi, on Wednesday, with members of information and communications technology (ICT) sector in the training youth government, a program affiliated to the Ministry of Youth's Political Institute.

According to a statement by Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Hanandeh referred to the role of Jordanian youth in the ICT and entrepreneurship fields locally, regionally and globally.

Hanandeh also stressed the government’s keenness to develop youth's digital skills that align with the requirements of the future labor market, which will be provided by a number of ministry-supervised programs and projects, aimed to empowering and training them on global practices in the ICT field.

Hanandeh noted the digital economy ministry had built a legislative and regulatory system supportive of cybersecurity by developing the cybersecurity strategy in 2018, outlining 2019 Cybersecurity Law and the 2019 national cybersecurity policies.

On the steps taken so far to back the sector, he said the National Cyber ??Security Council was also formed, and the National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) was launched, the executive arm of the Cybersecurity Law, which began its operations since 2020.

Hanandeh noted a group of cybersecurity incident response teams has been launched to serve the government, security and the financial sectors, adding that NCSC will ensure team integration and secure a "safe" cyber environment for the growth of a Jordanian safe and sustainable digital economy.

For his part, Nabulsi said the Political Institute program aims to enhance Jordanian youth political empowerment, which reflects Royal visions in enhancing youth participation in public life, and reviving their role in the decision-making process.

Nabulsi also added that the Political Institute, with its "Youth Parliament and Youth Government" subprograms, represents a national youth umbrella that reflects youth's visions on public affairs.
