Parliamentary committee meets with Egyptian envoy

Ammon News - Head of the Jordanian Parliamentary Fraternity Committee with the Arab Countries in the Nile Basin, MP Obeid Yassin, met Monday with Egypt Ambassador tot Jordan Muhammad Samir, fro a discussion on bilateral ties.

Yassin lauded as "historic and deep-rooted" the ties between Jordan and Egypt, thanks to both countries leaderships, adding that Amman and Cairo see eye-to-eye on region's issues, especially the Palestinian issue.

Yassin reported Egypt’s affirmation of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif), according to a committee statement on Monday.

Members of the committee called for signing a memorandum of cooperation between Jordan and Egypt parliaments, to further enhance coordination and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

They also called for exchanging expertise in all fields, especially economic and parliamentary spheres, as well as increasing cultural exchange by expanding the base of scholarships for students in both countries.

For his part, Ambassador Samir said ties between Jordan and Egypt are "strong" in all fields, is characterized by unity of purpose, and constitute a model for coordination and unity of stances towards issues of the region in general.

In addition to the unanimity on the Palestinian issue, a top priority for Egypt as it is for Jordan, the resolving of which will achieve stability and security in the region, Samir said the two countries seek to identify risks, in order to avoid them and thus realizing their peoples interests.
