Ammon News - Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez has affirmed that his ministry is seeking, through the 2021-2025 National Tourism Strategy, which has been recently approved by the cabinet, to go beyond the figures recorded in 2019, before the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic.

Al-Fayez indicated that the national tourism strategy, which is consistent with the government’s economic priorities program for 2021-2023, centers around five main themes: tourism product development, human resources, marketing, and heritage management and protection.

He added that the strategy aims at doubling the number of tourists as well as revenue by 2025, noting that in 2019 about 5.3 million tourists visited the Kingdom while revenue from tourism in that same year amounted to JD4.1 billion.

Jordan's tourism income, the minister said, recorded an increase during the first eleven months of this year to JD1.692 billion against JD1 billion in 2020, according to data issued by the Central Bank of Jordan.

He also pointed out that the total number of tourists coming to the Kingdom in the January-November period of the current year surpassed 2.1 million, while the number of overnight tourists inched up by 8.9 percent, noting that these figures exceed expectations and bode well for the recovery of the tourism sector.

Talking about the domestic tourism program "Urdunna Jannah" (Our Jordan is Paradise), Al-Fayez indicated that it aims at stimulating and revitalizing domestic tourism, and encouraging citizens to visit dozens of tourist destinations, pointing out that more than 50 percent of the cost of the trips under this scheme are covered by the Ministry and the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB).
