Ammon News - Jordan’s Industrial exports soared by a whopping JD4 billion, or 16 percent, in January-September period of 2021, compared to the same period last year, marking unprecedented growth that has not been registered since six years.
The General Industrial Production Index also spiked by 15.6 percent in the first nine moths of this year, which was driven by an increase in the production quantities of the manufacturing industries index by 16.1 percent, extractive industries by 7.8 percent, and electricity and water by 1.1 percent, according to data issued by the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI).
Head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Al-Jaghbir highlighted that removing the challenges hindering the national industries, such as high production costs in addition to poor exploited of export opportunities will double the sector's performance.
"Despite that the national exports reached to about 140 markets around the world, only 14 countries account for about 80 percent of the total exports," he indicated.
Al-Jaghbir added that the industry sector led the economic growth in the Kingdom during the first half of this year, as the sector spiked by 2.4 percent, which is contributed a third of the Jordan's gross domestic product (GDP).
Jordan produces nearly 5.5 million masks, 20,000 face shields, and more than 10,000 medical coveralls daily, he also indicated, noting that these products were exported to more than 70 global markets during the pandemic.
