4,126 faculty members, students, administrative staff contract Covid in 1st semester

Ammon News - The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced Wednesday that the accumulative number of Covid-19 cases among academic and administrative staff and students in universities and schools, has reached 4,126 cases since the start of the first semester of the current academic year 2021/2022.

Accordingly, only 1 percent of a total of 377,000 academic and administrative staff members and students has been infected with the Covid-19 disease, said media spokesperson for the ministry, Muhannad Khatib.

He said the accumulative number of recoveries stood at 1,700, or 41 per cent from the caseload, while active cases reached 2,422 or 59 per cent.

The percentage of vaccinated academic and administrative staff and students reached around 92 per cent, he noted, calling for non-vaccinated people to rush to vaccination centers, as nobody will be allowed inside campus unless vaccinated with two jabs, in accordance with defense order No. 35, which will be implemented as of 2022.

Khatib stressed the continuity of in-class education and that all examinations will be held on campus as set forth in the Higher Education Council resolutions.
