Ammon News - A Ryanair plane engine burst into flames after colliding with a siege of herons in Italy.

Gory images show the aftermath of the bird strike as the flight came into land at Bologna’s Marconi Airport.

Horrified onlookers filmed fire spurting out of the right hand engine just before the London Stansted service touched down.

The pilots managed to land the plane safely despite the birds slamming into flight FR1194.

No injuries were reported in the incident at around 11.30pm on Wednesday, November 24.

But the engine is thought have stopped working after an unknown number of birds hit it during the final approach.

Graphic pictures show the remains of the animals, with mangled feathers visible on the damaged plane.

They also showed remnants of the doomed birds clogging up the engine turbines, with feathers and pieces of bird carcasses plastered across the aircraft’s fuselage.

The pilots of the Boeing 737-800 landed relatively smoothly despite the engine stalling, local media reported.

After the plane stopped on the tarmac, an inspection suggested that the left engine had also been hit.

Ryanair believes that images circulating on social media and in other reports showing what appears to be blood and guts on the windscreen are fake.

But the image was tweeted by Dr Bob Baron, the President and CEO of the Aviation Consulting Group.

Ryanair spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘Flight FR1194 from London Stansted to Bologna on November 24 encountered a bird strike on final approach into Bologna Airport.

‘The crew of this flight did a fantastic job in landing the aircraft safely, keeping passengers informed, and ensuring passengers disembarked safely and on time.’

Bird strikes are relatively common in air travel but rarely result in endangering the aircraft and its passengers.
