Ammon News - AQABA A ceremony was held at the King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba to lay the foundation stone of a 10-million-dollar terminal for private jets.

Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority ASEZA President Hosni Abu Ghaida told the ceremony that the project is a landmark in the city's development process as a regional economic hub and a tourist destination, noting that Aqaba is a meeting point between countries of the East and West.

He pointed to efforts underway to introduce international best service at the airport in terms of passenger processing and treatment to ensure easy and quick procedures.

Abu Ghaida also spoke about the importance of the Aqaba development scheme to meet the needs of investors and the local population, noting that authorities had planned to turn the Red Sea port city into an investment magnet, particularly in the tourism sector where growth had more than tripled.

He said the number of hotel rooms in the city had soared to more than 7,500 after the opening of three world-class hotels recently.

Aqaba Airports Company AAC Director General Muneer Asaad said the new private jet service terminal was in line with the Aqaba development strategy that would cater to visitor and investor needs.

He said the airport's committee would soon launch a marketing programme for all the city's projects via relevant international forums.

He said the AAC had made significant strides through its accomplishments which reflected in a growing aviation activity at the airport which will witness expansion as part of a structural plan for the next 30 years to raise its capacity and become an advanced regional air facility.
