Ammon News - Sophia Begg was forced to defend herself after she posted a TikTok of her driving in her mum's Mercedes to pick up a big McDonald's order for a homeless charity.

An influencer has hit back at trolls who criticised her for buying 50 Big Mac's for the homeless.


Australian TikToker Sophia Begg ( @sophadophaa ) shared a video racking up a $322.50 (£176.76) bill for the burgers which she said she was delivering to homeless charity Will2Live.

The 17-year-old said she was "killing two birds with one stone" as she'd purchased the food on McHappy Day when $2 (£1.10) from each of the Big Macs is donated to sick children and their families.

"If you haven’t already, go support Ronald McDonald House and buy a Big Mac… Shoutout to Will2live who will be giving these to the homeless," she wrote in the clip.

Although she received numerous comments from people praising her generosity, many accused her of using the sweet gesture to gain followers online.

One person said: "In all honesty, you should have just donated the money directly to Ronald McDonald House (McDonald's partner charity)."

Another wrote: "Not sure what giving out burgers to the homeless would achieve."

A third commented: "Why would you document this and take a video of the price?"

"Doing it for clout," accused someone else.

Now she's addressed the "ridiculous" amount of hate she received in a follow-up video.

"I literally can’t deal with people sometimes … The amount of hate I’ve gotten is ridiculous. Everyone is saying that I should’ve just donated directly and it was a waste,” she said in the clip.

"I ended up supporting two charities at once through buying a Big Mac for McHappy Day and giving them to the homeless."

She went on to tell viewers of the many donations she's made over the years, and how many of these were to the Ronald McDonald House.

"When I was younger I used to donate food and milk to the house every week and go deliver it. I shaved my head in Year 6 on Channel 7 to raise money. And I sell all my clothes and give 100% of the proceeds to Ronald McDonald House. I just think it’s ridiculous that I’m getting hate.

"Also a lot of the people were saying like, 'Oh yeah, you did this just for TikTok, you did this for content … Sure I could have donated directly, but the whole point in my head was to use my platform to make people aware of McHappy Day.

"I thought it would be a waste of my platform not to share something like this that is so close to my heart … I just feel like I’ve been getting so much hate."

She also addressed questions about why she drove an hour and 20 minutes to get to McDonald's, explaining: "The charity we gave them to was then giving them to the homeless that lived that far away.

"So we went to a Maccas closest to them so they weren't cold."


Many of her loyal followers rushed to support her in the comments, where they said she should feel "proud."

One person said: "You're such a kind soul Soph, the world is lucky to you."

Another wrote: "Heart of gold!!!"

While a third said: "People are miserable, you did a wonderful thing and should feel proud."
