McDonald's fans left 'sobbing' over tearjerking 2021 Christmas advert

Ammon News - A festive advertisement has become an intrinsic part of the run-up to Christmas, and McDonald's fans say they have been left in floods of tears by the chain's attempt.

For some, it may feel far too early to even mention the word rhyming with 'Fischtmas', but it's officially Christmas Advert season.


Tissues at the ready - just when you thought all the tearjerking festive ad's had been released, the McDonald's Christmas offering has left viewers in tears.

The fast-food chain released the advert today on its social media with the caption "Introducing Imaginary Iggy! Are you #ReindeerReady?”.

Not only did it confirm that the most wonderful time of the year is finally drawing closer, it also had a sweet message.

Set to a rendition of 'Time After Time’ by singer Mabel, the advert follow's young girl Matilda's journey through childhood, as she bonds over Christmas rituals with her imaginary friend Iggy.

But she grows up and leaves him behind in her childhood; until a spark of Christmas joy helps to spark her memory.

The advert went viral on social media, - with many viewers admitting they were left in tears.

One woman wrote: "I just happened across the McDonalds Christmas advert [on my way] to work. Don't watch if you're PMSing cos' it brought a tear to my eye. First of the ads to do it."

Another added: "I’m so emotional I’m crying at the McDonald’s Christmas Advert."

"Currently hiding my tears in the staff room..." admitted another.

McDonald's is donating funding to enable FareShare to redistribute five million meals to families most in need this Christmas.

Michelle Graham-Clare, McDonald's chief marketing officer said: “Christmas is such as joyous time for children and adults alike – with this year set to be better than ever as families reunite all over the country after a difficult few years.


"We are looking forward to seeing our customers’ reactions to the advert and hope that the friendship between Matilda and Iggy brings a smile to viewers when watching.

"It is vitally important that the communities we serve are helped as much as possible, given the highly challenging circumstances many families and individuals are facing.

McDonald’s Christmas advert for 2021 will premiere on TV tonight, November 12, during Channel 4 ’s Gogglebox.
