Political, Parliamentary Affairs Minister meets World Bank representative

Ammon News - Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs and Chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Women's Empowerment Musa Maaytah, on Sunday met with World Bank Resident Representative in Jordan Holly Benner and World Bank’s advisor Nour Mughrabi.

"A Women’s Committee was formed under the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System and developed recommendations related to women’s political participation and enabling them to reach Parliament and engage in political parties, which will push for a greater role for them in drafting laws and legislation and have a positive impact on them," Maaytah said in the meeting.

He pointed to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Women's Empowerment's role in developing plans and programs that would enhance women's participation and empowerment in all aspects of social, economic and political life.

Benner, in turn, said that the World Bank is interested in the women's sector by recognizing challenges they face and developing mechanisms that promote access to the best solutions that align with social and economic opportunities in Jordan.

She expressed the World Bank's readiness to cooperate with the government to initiate dialogue with the private sector, especially with regard to the recommendations issued by the Conference on Economic Empowerment of Women in Jordan and to present examples of solutions applied in other countries, in addition to providing all data and information that would contribute to the improvement of policies.

Mughrabi also talked about the Mashreq plan, which was launched in 3 countries in 2019 and was a commitment to the economic empowerment of women, as its aim was to raise women’s participation in the labor market to 25 per cent, and accordingly a national plan was designed for themes that will be dealt with.
