19-10-2021 01:12 AM

Ammon News -

Jordan Monday partook in an International Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting for Arab members in the Board of Governors to discuss regional economic and social challenges.

The meeting, which was held virtually, focused on the means of recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic economic fallout and discussed joint development opportunities in the region.

In his capacity as Jordan's governor to the IMF, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh praised the IMF for supporting Jordan weather the economic ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shraideh said the IMF supported Jordan's programmes and plans to counter the pandemic's social, economic and health challenges by offering financial and technical support.

The IMF also supported Jordan, he emphasised, by contributing to its social protection programmes that the government has been launching since the start of the pandemic, adding it supported programmes to create job opportunities.

He emphasised the importance of continued IMF support for Jordan's financial recovery plans that mainly seek to create job opportunities.

Shraideh highlighted the Syrian refugee crisis and its negative impact on Jordan's economy against the backdrop of dwindling international support for Jordan's Syrian refugee response plan.

He stressed the IMF's role in encouraging the international community to increase their contribution to Jordan's Syrian refugee crisis response plan.
