Ammon News - A cyber-security expert has revealed where secret cameras are often hidden in Airbnb's or hotel rooms.

'Ex-hacker' Marcus Hutchins, also known online as Malwaretech, is famously known for temporarily stopping the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack that affected thousands of computers worldwide.

Now, he teaches cybersecurity on Instagram and TikTok ( @malwaretech ) where his video on hidden hotel cameras has amassed a staggering 27.1 million views.

In the clip, Hutchins recommends using the light from a torch to check your room for any potential recording devices.

"Take this fire alarm, for instance, it is placed right above the bed," he begins.

"Now one way to see if the device is a camera is to shine a bright light at it.

"If you hit a camera lens it’s going to get a blue-ish reflection," he says as he flashes his torch at it and reveals a camera.

He then moved to the digital alarm clock beside the bed, where he showed how a USB charger could even be home to a pinhole camera.

"These cameras are really small as you can see here, so they can be hidden in anything, even a hole in the wall," he said.

"You’re going to want to check any suspicious devices or holes that are facing the shower, dressing area or the bed."

He then demonstrated how to spot infrared LEDs to help detect night vision cameras.

"The front-facing camera is the only one that tends to work as the back-facing one has an IR filter," he explained.

Although Hutchins explained that the video didn't take place in a real Airbnb and was staged for the purpose of the video, he added that the threat was still real.

Since being posted, the video has received 4.2 million likes and 21,000 comments, with many people saying they have a "new reason not to leave home."

One person said: "New fear unlocked."

Another wrote: "Fantastic, another thing to be paranoid about."

A third commented: "I would stare at the camera the whole time and scare them."

"That's it I'm showering in clothes," said a fourth viewer.

While someone else put: "Thank you for the tips but MY ANXIETYYY."
