Ammon News - An American woman says she was been charged $11 after crying during a mole removal surgery.

The charge was categorised as showing ‘Brief Emotion’.

She sarcastically tweeted an image of her bill, writing: "Mole removal: $223 Crying: extra."

The social media user on Twitter called Midge, then jokily added: "I didn’t even get a damn sticker."

One person replied: "I can't tell if this is amazing satire or another example of ridiculous medical billing shenanigans," to which the woman replied: "It's real," before adding an emoji of an American flag.

Many were left shocked by the charge, and many criticised the 'horrendous' charges people can face while ill.

One person replied: "I dislike the UK's view of the NHS as a sacred institution, that cannot be even constructively criticised without facing cries of "stop trying to sell it off/do you want an American-style system?".

"But s*** like this makes me real f***ing protective of it."

Another commented: "They were padding your visit to make more money. Very scummy manoeuvre! They'll add this any time they ask you if you've been depressed recently or about your mental state in general."

A third added: "This is genuinely the moment when we should collectively down tools. This is the end. Society is broken."

"And somehow universal health care is frowned upon. I'll never understand US medical fees," wrote another.

Others shared their experiences of being charged excessively after developing health problems.

One man complained: "I woke up while they were taking my wisdom teeth out. Specifically, I woke up while they were hammering on one of my teeth to split it in half. They charged me for the extra anaesthesia to put me back under."

Another wrote: "I recently had a seizure and was super out of it afterwards so I was charged for “emotional assist” and when I asked about it the lady was just like 'Yes it says here you were distressed.'

"'Dude no s***, you ever have a seizure lady?' My brain is literally misfiring what do you want."
