Ammon News - The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) called for the need to intensify monitoring efforts on Jordan's labor market and various economic facilities to control wage-related violations, especially gender-based pay discrimination, and failure to comply with the minimum JD260 salary ceiling, Jordan News Agency Petra reported.

In a press statement on International Equal Pay Day (IEPD), which falls on Saturday, GFJTU's President, Mazen Ma'aytah, said women workers have the right to receive equal wages with "similar value, effort " jobs to men.

Ma'aytah pointed to the importance of "altering stereotypes behind women’s deprivation of equal pay," underlining the need to raise awareness on factors curbing women's economic engagement, according to Petra.

GFJTU, in cooperation with Jordanian relevant authorities and production parties, worked to promote gender equality in labor rights, especially related to wages, according to Ma'aytah.

This joint national effort also aims to address the causes that increase gender gap and find "appropriate" solutions, he noted.

Ma'aytah added: "GFJTU- affiliated syndicates operate according to the principle of social dialogue and seek to integrate the issue of equal gender-based wages, under blanket labor contracts concluded with employers in economic establishments."
