Ammon News - A couple has been slammed for hosting an "obscene and revolting" 9/11-themed wedding after a picture of their tasteless party favour was posted online.

Saturday, September 11, marked 20 years since the devastating terror attacks on the World Trade Centre where almost 3,000 people lost their lives.

While millions of people paid their respects and shared tributes for those who were affected by the tragedy, one couple has been criticised for their insensitivity as they themed their wedding around it.

A horrified Reddit user shared a picture of the wedding favours online, which saw the words "Never Forget" and the date, which was the 11th September 2021, with the fallen towers used in place of the number 11.

Alongside the picture, they wrote: "This couple thought the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 was a great theme for their wedding."

Reddit users were horrified by the decision.

One person wrote: "This is, without a doubt, the most trashy, tasteless, self-aggrandising, obscene, revolting thing I've seen on the internet."

Another agreed: "Straight up disgusting."

While a third added: "I don't think getting married on 9/11 is inherently insensitive, but making your wedding 9/11 themed definitely is."

A few others attempted to make sense of the decision, as they recognised that there may be discounts for weddings on this date.

But it was agreed that having the party themed around the tragic event was insensitive.

"MAYBE if they met on 09/11/2001 and they helped each other get to safety and they waited 20 years to get married I could POSSIBLY understand I think. Just trying to wrap my head around this one," wrote one user.

"Some wedding venues offer discounted rates on this date, for the obvious reason. I don’t think getting married on 9/11 is inherently insensitive, but making your wedding 9/11 themed definitely is," another commented.

"When you get a great discount for picking a date no one wants and just really run with it,’ said someone else.

Previously, a bride was branded "tacky" for her attempt at getting people to pay towards her hen do.

The anonymous woman, believed to be from the US, was travelling to Texas for her hen weekend.

But as money was tight, she came up with a plan to raise some money for the occasion.

In brightly coloured pens, she wrote out her PayPal account details on the windows of her car and her plan for the hen do.
