Chambers of industry elections results revealed

Ammon News - AMMAN - Hatem Halawani, Mohammad Arsalan and Raed Samarah will chair the chambers of industry in Amman, Zarqa and Irbid, based on official election results.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced the outcome of the elections for the three governorates late Saturday.

For the nine board seats of Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI, former chairman Hatem Halawani’s Waten Bloc won eight seats as he was joined by fellow members Musa Saket, Ziad Homsi, Adnan Ghaith, Sawsan Haddad, Munir Asi, Saad Yasin and Qassem Abu Salha, while Dima Sukhtian was the only representative for the Reform Bloc.

In Irbid, the board of directors was won by Raed Samarah, Amjad Afram, Jamal Abu Mansour, Mowafaq Bani Hani, Hisham Afouri, Mohammad Oweis, Ibrahim Abu Sheikh, Maher Nasser and Shaher Qerba.

Industrialists in Zarqa elected Mohammad Arsalan, Mohammad Tal, Dina Khayyat, Bassam Kilani, Thabet Werr, Omar Khalil, Haider Amayreh, Jamil Wreikat and Talal Ghzawi to be their representatives in the chamber of industry.

According to the elections count, the voters’ turnout was the highest ever with 79 per cent in Amman, 72.8 per cent in Zarqa and 97.7 per cent in Irbid.

Under the law, the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) board of directors will be comprised of 19 members who will be the elected presidents of the three chambers, one representative from Irbid and another one from Zarqa, four members of ACI and a representative from each of the 10 industrial sectors.

Halawani, who was also JCI president, is the favourite to hold the position for another term after his bloc won the seats for the 10 industrial sectors.

Representation for the 10 industrial sectors were won by Samir Mqaddah for textiles, Mohammad Abdallat for food and agriculture, Ghaleb Saghir for plastic, Ayman hatahet for mining, Mohammad Shahin for pharmaceutical and medical supplies, Nabil Ismail for chemicals and cosmetics, Mohammad Ennab for electronics and engineering, Yosri Tahboub for furniture, Nazzal Armouti for construction and Adnan Abu Ragheb for stationery.

Figures showed that of the four women candidates, three of them won board seats, two in Amman and one in Zarqa.

On Sunday, the ACI board of directors held its first meeting and elected Halawani as chairman and Homsi as deputy, according to Musa Saket, who told The Jordan Times that elections for JCI board members is expected to be held within two days. (By Omar Obeidat/ Jordan Times)
