Ammon News - TORONTO - Canada's own Comedian Russell Peters has just returned from Amman, Jordan where he attended a private audience with His Majesty King Abdullah II at the Royal Palace. Peters returned for the 2nd annual Amman Stand-Up Comedy Festival as the headlining closing night performer for the second year in a row.
The King, who is a self-described fan of Peters, invited Peters to an audience after being unable to attend his shows due to other official commitments.
"If I were a King, he's the kind of King I'd like to be!" commented Peters. "He's the coolest guy. He follows comedy and is a huge supporter of the festival here in Amman."
Later that evening, Peters returned to the palace with brother and Manager, Clayton Peters and sister-in-law Emma Wyatt for a dinner with King Abdullah and Queen Rania.
"He's an important voice in the region and we've been fans of his for several years now. It's not like you have dinner with the King and Queen every night," added Clayton Peters.
Also in attendance were comedians; Gabriel Iglesias, Dean Obeidallah and Larry Omaha who participated in the festival. The festival is the only one of its kind in the Middle East and is an important cultural event in the region.
Peters will be appearing at two sold-out shows at New York's Radio City Music Hall at the end of January 2010 and was listed as one of the world's highest earning comedians by Forbes in 2009..
