Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali said Tuesday that supporting a competitive industry and trade sector, particularly the exports sector, has the government's support within its recovery programme for the next two years that aims to boost growth and competitiveness and create job opportunities.

Ali spoke during a visit to the Irbid Governorate, where she opened a branch of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), met with the Chambers of Industry and Commerce board and participated in a workshop to familiarize with the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) programmes.

The recovery plan for the next two years, she said, is based on multiple measures to support the economic sectors, including cutting production costs to raise competitiveness, top of which is reducing electric tariffs, in addition to a package of incentives, simplifying procedures and reducing red tape to help create an investor-friendly environment for local and foreign investors.

Translating these measures into real action will begin shortly, the minister said, stressing that the "balanced" recovery plan was the culmination of a series of meetings and the public-private sector partnership.

Ali pointed out that the ministry is in the process of introducing "applicable" solutions to challenges and hindrances facing economic sectors, which have been hit hard by the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, "in a manner to enable them to rise again and restore their vital and key role as employer of more than a quarter of a million workers and employees."
