In his interview with "Petra" on Sunday, Secretary-General of the Jordan Navigation Syndicate (JNS), Mohammad al-Dalabih, said Aqaba port is witnessing a "growing" activity 2021, thanks to the government's measures that stimulated normalcy following closures imposed by the Covid-19 crisis-induced repercussions, describing the recent figures as " optimistic."
991 ships docked at the Aqaba port in the first 7 months 2021, an increase of 79 ships compared to last year, which saw 912 vessels docking the port, according to al-Dalabih.
The port handled a total cargo of 8 million tonnes until July 2021, an increase of 3% over the same period last year, which stood at 7.7 million tonnes, he said, adding that exports also soared in the same period by 8%, while imports witnessed a 1% increase.
