The Lower House Legal Committee approved, during its meeting on Wednesday, the draft anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing law for 2020, which was referred by the Senate.

At the meeting, the panel's head, MP Mohammad Hilalat, said the bill saw "deep" deliberations and "extensive" debate on the articles returned by the Upper House, especially those related to the entities reporting existence of "suspicious" money laundering cases.

The draft is part of Jordan's international commitment to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction pursuant to the findings of the Kingdom's 2020 mutual evaluation process.

According to the draft, the scope of those subject to the law is expanded, and supervisory and competent bodies in the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing domain are identified.
