Senate president meets Russian envoy over cooperation, region

Senate President, Faisal Fayez, on Wednesday discussed with the Russian Ambassador to Jordan, Gleb Desyatnikov, ways to enhance the friendly relations between the two countries in various fields.

Fayez stressed the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation and unifying joint efforts to confront Covid-19 pandemic, as well as coordination for restoring security and stability to the region.

On the economic cooperation, Fayez pointed to the importance of activating and increasing investment and trade relations between the two countries, based on the joint "strategic" relations and working to open the Russian markets for Jordanian exports and agricultural products.

Fayez, moreover, urged to reduce fees for entering the Russian market, and remove any related obstacles obstructing activation of bilateral agreements related to economic, tourism and investment aspects.

Discussions also reviewed all the region's current issues, the latest developments in relation to the peace process and solution to the Syrian crisis, according to an Upper House statement.

In this regard, Fayez called on the major countries sponsoring the peace process to push for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution.

Desyatnikov, for his part, stressed his country's pride in the friendly relations with Jordan and its efforts to develop and build on them in various fields.
The diplomat said Jordanian-Russian relations are "strong and solid," based on mutual respect, in a way that enhances bilateral ties and serves common interests.
