Ministers meet with heads of parliamentary blocs on Gov't work priorities

The government continued its meetings to discuss its work priorities and key policies and reforms required for growth and job creation.

On Tuesday, ministers held meeting with heads of parliamentary blocs in the Lower House of Parliament.

In the meeting, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh, highlighted key themes and plans of the government's work priorities.

Ministers of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Musa Maaitah, Tourism and Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez, Finance, Mohammad Al-Ississ, State for Government Follow-up and Coordination "Nawaf Wasfi" At-Tal, and Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh, attended the meeting.

Shraideh stressed the importance of defining the government’s work priorities for the next two years in light of the gradual opening of various economic sectors, developments in the epidemiological situation and the economy's recovery.

"Efforts must focus on restoring the recovery od the national economy and the start of growth," Shraideh said.

During the meeting, Shraideh indicated that the government prepared its 2021-2023 priorities document based on the Royal Letter of Designation and the Jordan Document 2025, and the sectoral strategies and goals of the sustainable development agenda and the indicative executive program for the years 2021-2024.

He added that the government has set its priority in stimulating investment by attracting at least 5 new strategic investments in the field of mining, rare elements and associated manufacturing industries, developing services and an investment promotion system, activating the role of public investment company, and re-stimulating the capital market through the application of the approved roadmap.

His Majesty King Abdullah directed the government to develop a clear-cut economic work program linked to specific time periods for its implementation, in partnership with the private sector, in order to achieve economic recovery.

In turn, heads of the parliamentary blocs stressed the importance of participation between the public and private sectors to reach the desired recovery and survive the economic impacts of the Corona pandemic, implement the government's priorities for economic recovery, and enhance the role of promising sectors in economic development.

They called on the government to more seriously consider the business environment and enhance competitiveness and equal opportunities in the economy, in parallel with building new partnerships. This, they added, requires developing a specific priorities program, moving from the diagnosis stage to the implementation stage of a number of projects with important development dimensions that take into account the balance between governorates and provide decent job opportunities.

They stressed the need to build effective and rapid strategies regarding the investment system and mechanisms to stimulate and facilitate attracting foreign investment and localizing domestic investment, noting that investment is the main driver of the economy.

They underlined the importance of conducting administrative reforms in public institutions, and bringing about sustainable development in the comprehensive concept that affects all governorates of the Kingdom.

Members of the government team listened to proposals and suggestions submitted by heads of the parliamentary blocs with the aim of integrating them into the government's priorities in the current or later stages.
