PM, Turkish minister discuss ties

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Tuesday welcomed Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, noting the deep Jordanian-Turkish ties and the government's keen interest in further cementing cooperation "in the service of the two countries' interests."

During the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim Al-Jazi and Turkish Ambassador Ismail Armaz, the Prime Minister said Jordan looks forward to boosting cooperation in economic, trade, investment and tourism fields.

Khasawneh said that the Turkish government's recent endorsement of an economic cooperation agreement with Jordan will open wider scopes for cooperation and enhance trade exchange.

It was agreed during the meeting that the Turkish Minister of Trade visits the Kingdom in the near future to discuss the mechanisms to activate the agreement and identify economic cooperation priorities.

The premier also offered condolences for the victims of recent fires and floods in Turkey, and voiced Jordan's solidarity with the country to overcome their impact.

For his part, the Turkish minister emphasised the close relations with Jordan, and the two countries' keen interest in boosting the volume of two-way trade, adding that his government encouraged Turkish companies to invest in the Kingdom.

The meeting also dealt with developments in the region and efforts to enhance regional security and stability, as well as other issues of common interest.
