A delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Sunday visited the Cities and Villages Development Bank (CVDB) to check first-hand on projects implemented under the USAID-funded CITIES Project (Cities Implementing Transparent, Innovative, and Effective Solutions).
Led by the Deputy Director of the Democracy, Rights, and Governance Office at USAID Jordan, Lyla Bashan, the delegation learned about the impact of the agency's support on the municipal financial system, equality of opportunities, and gender equality.
During the meeting, Bashan stressed that "the municipal sector is the most important axis in society" and expressed the agency's pride in supporting and empowering the Bank, through the deployment of multiple systems, to support municipalities across the Kingdom.
In turn, the Director-General of the Bank, Osama Al-Azzam, stressed that "with the data and information provided by the fixed asset management system, the Bank was able to establish national partnerships to improve municipal performance. The training program also helped provide the young talents we need during the pandemic period."
The fixed asset management system will contribute to proving solvency and facilitating access to the necessary funding for local development initiatives, as well as facilitating municipalities' transition to the accrual basis of accounting.
The meeting also touched on the Online Financial Dashboard which aims to improve the financial management of municipalities and support the decision-making process by providing appropriate information.
The Bank also presented its experience in establishing the Equal Opportunities Unit with support from the CITIES project, which will contribute to integrating the concepts of gender equity and equal opportunities in the institutional culture.
