Jordan Atomic Energy Commission

Ammon News - Since the beginning of 2021, the Jordanian uranium mining company started operating its "pioneering" factory to extract uranium yellowcake, according to the head of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC), Dr. Khaled Toukan.

In his interview with "Petra," on Saturday, Toukan said the JAEC-owned company has completed geological works and identified the amount of uranium oxide reserve (yellow cake) in the Kingdom's central regions, indicating that the uranium exploration and mining project in the active sites is a JAEC's enterprise under Jordan's nuclear program carried out since the commission's establishment in 2008.

In addition to uranium exploration in the Kingdom's central region, he said the program also consists of Jordanian nuclear reactor project for research and training, which entered service in 2016, and the nuclear power plant designed to produce electricity and desalinate sea water, both of which are currently being implemented.

Toukan announced Jordan's uranium exploration and mining project, which is run "highly" trained Jordanian experts and specialists, has come a long way since its launch.

Located in Allan in Jordan's Balqa governorate, the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East ( SESAME), has started receiving international researchers to conduct their scientific research since 2018 using synchrotron light, according to Toukan.

Since its establishment, he said the JAEC has made many achievements in all its projects designed for scientific, research, medical and training purposes, and was keen to integrate the best science and technological practices in its work mechanisms and management of nuclear facilities.
