Ammon News - Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) welcomed some 1.233 million passengers during the first half of 2021, according to a press statement issued by Airport International Group (AIG) on Saturday.
The statement said the amount of cargo handled since the beginning of this year amounted to about 25k tonnes and aircraft movements stood at about 4,000, while the volume of air freight reached about 5.7 thousand tonnes.
The airport's monthly passenger traffic recorded its "highest" level during last June, with more than 389,000 passengers, despite the continuing repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the constantly changing travel requirements, said the statement.
CEO of the AIG, Nicolas Claude, said the Airport International Group has been working "hard" with the Jordanian government and various stakeholders and partners since the beginning of the pandemic to ensure that QAIA remains "safe" for passengers and staff.
Claude stressed the airport's keenness to return "quickly and safely" to its pre-pandemic work levels, as Jordan's main air gateway to the world.
