Education minister, Kuwaiti envoy discuss students issues

Ammon News - Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohammad Abu Qudais, on Monday said the Higher Education Council is keen to develop general policies for accepting foreign students, in order to help increasing their numbers in Jordanian universities, while maintaining the quality of the outputs of the Jordanian higher education sector.

In a meeting with Kuwaiti Ambassador to Jordan, Aziz Al Daihani, the minister lauded the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and Kuwait.

"The ministry is currently working on preparing new arrangements to facilitate the admission of Kuwaiti students to Jordanian universities, and creating a unified (office) window to provide services to spare foreign students from visiting public institutions and entities that they must visit when starting studying in Jordan, such as the Ministry of Education, the Jordanian Borders and Residence Department, and Customs.

Abu Qudais added that Jordanian universities seek excellence by offering new specializations and study programs (future majors) that are required in the regional and global labor market.

The Minister touched on recent decisions of the Higher Education Council regarding the development of study plans and programs and their inclusion of the required skills that are compatible with the requirements of the labor market, such as leadership and innovation, administrative skills, English language skills, leadership skills and social responsibility, in addition to including special training and qualification programs to enable university graduates to obtain internationally accredited professional certificates in some specializations that easily help them obtain suitable job opportunities.

He stressed the need to implement royal visions regarding integrating e-learning and making it a part of the educational process in higher education institutions and transforming the challenge Jordanian universities are facing into opportunities for success and a new start to the future.

The meeting discussed the reconsideration of competent Kuwaiti authorities Jordanian universities accredited for the purposes of direct scholarship by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Higher Education, where a Kuwaiti committee will visit Jordanian universities for this purpose.

In turn, Ambassador Al-Daihani underscored the historical brotherly relations between the two brotherly countries, expressing his pride in Jordanian universities and their graduates of Kuwaiti students who showed distinction when they joined the labor market in Kuwait.

He pointed out that the competent authorities in Kuwait recognize all Jordanian universities and that what happened is a re-arrangement and distribution of Kuwaiti students among Jordanian universities, adding that the coming days will witness re-granting Kuwaiti students scholarships to study in Jordanian universities again and in certain specializations that meet the needs of the labor market.

He commended the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education and university presidents in order to overcome any difficulties facing Kuwaiti students, stressing that there is a great demand from Kuwaiti families to send their children to study in Jordan.

Kuwaiti Cultural Attaché, Bader Mutairi, lauded the quick response of Jordanian universities in dealing with any issues related to Kuwaiti students, reviewing a number of issues that were discussed during the meeting.

In turn, Jordanian university presidents, who attended the meeting, praised Kuwaiti students for their moral and scientific excellence, reviewing what their universities are doing with the aim of overcoming difficulties and increasing the attraction of foreign students to study in Jordanian universities.

There are 5,110 Kuwaiti students currently studying in Jordanian universities in various disciplines and degrees.
