Ammon News - Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Monday stressed the leading role of young people in raising social awareness in the midst of a critical stage of the pandemic that obligates full adherence to public safety requirements.

The premier made the remarks during the launch of the 2021 Al-Hussein Labor and Construction Camps at the Al-Hussein Youth City as part of celebrations of centennial of the Jordanian state.

"We cannot rest until the epidemiological situation stabilizes and until we overcome the risks of the pandemic," he told the ceremony, noting that the Kingdom is still in a critical epidemiological stage.

"We must avoid setbacks because we cannot afford to go back to lockdown policies, which have had difficult repercussions on citizens, economic sectors and the state treasury," Khasawneh pointed out.

The Prime Minister pointed to the leading role of young people in enhancing a culture of health security for individuals and societies to usher in a safe summer, return to normalcy, reopen all sectors and return to in-person education in September.

"We are proud of the history of the Al-Hussein Labor and Construction Camps, which have a great legacy that we must preserve," noting the role of the camps, which were established in 1968.

Noting the Kingdom's achievements, the prime minister said: "We have entered into the current century and the State's centennial under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, keeping pace with all the requirements of the times, according to His Majesty's insightful and modernizing vision."

"We were able to merge the technological and technical development in the vital and emerging fields and to include them in the activities offered by the Al-Hussein Camps, leading to an approach that combines the old and the new, merging the heritage of the camps and the modernity of their activities, integrating the national identity and global citizenship, and achieving the original purpose of the camps and adding new goals to them," he added.

Minister of Youth Mohammad Nabulsi pointed out that this year's camps came under the directives of His Majesty the King to boost the youth sector and stay in direct contact with young people as an asset to the Kingdom and the future of its advancement.

The ministry, he indicated, decided to include the age group of 12 to 30 years, where more than 23,000 participants can join the camps over the course of 8 weeks, noting that some camps will be carried out via virtual technology while others will be in-person.

The camps aim to boost the youth's social impact through cognitive empowerment, enhancing their attitudes to participate in political and civil life, highlighting national achievements during the centennial and the role of the Hashemites in building the Jordanian state, in addition to empowering young people in the various fields and enhancing their creativity, innovation, excellence and leadership.
