67 establishments fined, 452 warned for flouting smoking ban

Ammon News - Health Ministry inspection teams have fined 67 facilities and warned 452 others since the start of this month for violating health requirements under a law banning smoking and serving argilah (hookah) in closed public places.

The Ministry said in a press release Monday that it is continuing its strict controls and anti-smoking campaign in facilities and institutions in all of the governorates to ensure adherence to Public Health Law No. 47 of 2008 and its amendments, including the prohibition of smoking in closed places, adherence to public safety procedures inside facilities, social distancing and wearing masks towards reaching a smoke-free environment.

The inspection campaign was carried out by ministry officers under the supervision of the Directorate of Awareness and Health Information in conjunction with the issuance of regulations No. (1) of 2021 regarding shops serving argilah and the ban on all forms of smoking in public places as well as the ministry's awareness campaigns, it said.
