Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh Monday stressed the importance of building a "realistic and applicable" strategy for the transport sector, based on scientific standards that balance financial aspects and the sector's various needs.
He said as he chaired the first meeting of the Higher Steering Committee to draw up a transport strategy that the strategy should take into consideration the sector's priorities and existing projects, including the railway link between Aqaba to Madouna, which is drawing investor interest, noting that the government is to proceed with an initial agreement to finalize the project, in addition to the Bus Rapid Transit currently in progress.
The Prime Minister told the meeting, which was attended by a number of ministers and representatives of the private sector, that building and updating a transport strategy should eye improving the quality of service, especially urban transport and investment-attracting railway ventures.
He also stressed working with private transport companies to prioritize the sector "in a manner to improve and modernize the public transport system."
During the meeting, Transport Minister Wajih Azayzeh gave a visual presentation on the key ground rules in drawing the strategy, including explanations and challenges, as well as an overview of future projects.
