Jordan Tuesday partook in the newly established Arab ministerial committee to stop Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem.

The Committee that was endorsed by the Arab League in an emergency session in April comprises Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Palestine, Qatar, Morocco and Tunisia, in addition to the pan-Arab organization's secretary-general.

The member states elected Jordan to chair the Committee that seeks to pool the efforts of different parties to stop the Israeli "illegal and provocative" measures and to make the Israeli authorities respect the "legal and historical" status quo in occupied Jerusalem, especially its holy sites.

The convened emphasized Jordan's role in protecting the Muslim and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem and the city's historical identity.
