Palestine parliamentary committee meets media minister

Ammon News - The Palestine Parliamentary Committee on Sunday discussed the role of state media outlets in defending the Palestinian cause.

The discussion went in a meeting, chaired by head of Palestine Parliamentary Committee, MP Mohammad Al Thahrawi, and attended by Minister of State for Media Affairs, the government spokesperson, Sakher Dudin, and directors of state media institutions.

Al Thahrawi lauded the state media's coverage of the recent Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people and the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

He explained that this meeting is part of a series of meetings held by the committee with various media outlets, with the aim of developing a national media vision against the ongoing Israeli attacks on holy sites, supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and highlighting Jordan's positions under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah towards the Palestinian cause and the Hashemite custodianship over the holy sites.

Al Thahrawi announced that the Palestine Committee's intention to organize a conference on Jerusalem next month. He also called for enabling of the "Return My right, My Decision" campaign which was launched in 80 countries and is close to collecting one million signatures, in preparation for submitting it through the Palestinian Return Center to the United Nations.

Dudin said that King Abdullah always affirms that the Palestinian cause is Jordan's central issue, including the holy Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif) as the top priority.

He stressed the importance of the historical Hashemite custodianship in defending the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, adding that Jordan, under the leadership King Abdullah, is making every possible effort to realize the Palestinian right, foremost of which is the establishment of the independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

In his response to the committee members' comments and suggestions, Dudin explained that the government is positively perceiving constructive criticism with the aim of developing the performance of media institutions and enabling them to highlight the Palestinian cause, lauding the suggestions made by the committee members.

Dudin stressed keenness of state media institutions to highlight the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, indicating that they will work to develop their programs and news bulletins to serve the Palestinian brothers and contribute to highlighting their just cause in addition to highlighting the cohesion between the Jordanian and Palestinian peoples and focusing on the important religious and historical events in the history of Jerusalem and the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The media minister further added that the state media institutions narrative is constantly highlighting practices and violations of the Israeli occupying forces practiced in violation of the international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

For his part, Director General of the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Fayeq Hijazin, said that "Petra" has intensively published stories related to the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem.

"Petra", Hijazin added, worked to show the suffering of Palestinians in Jerusalem and Gaza as a result of the recent Israeli aggression, and highlight the official and public Jordanian position through Petra's reporters in Ramallah and Gaza.

In addition, the agency coordinated with the Awqaf Ministry to keep abreast with any development on the ground, as well as covering every local and foreign activity related to Jerusalem and the holy sites.
