Ammon News - Philippine Ambassador to Amman Akmad Atlah Sakkam said that more than 38,000 Filipino workers in the Kingdom have found Jordan a second home.
During a ceremony held Saturday evening by the embassy of Philippines in Amman commemorating the 123rd anniversary of Philippine Independence, the ambassador stressed the close and brotherly ties between the two countries with the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between them.
The envoy pointed out to the visit of His Majesty King Hussein to the Republic in March 1976, which was reciprocated with the visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the Kingdom in September 2018.
"The Philippines is one with the Kingdom as His Majesty King Abdullah II, in his Aqaba process, leads in countering violent extremism," the ambassador said.
On the Palestinian cause, he confirmed that the Philippines in its commitment to find a stable and permanent solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict has maintained its continuing support based upon a two-state solution.
The ambassador also commended the Philippine community’s unity and cooperation with Jordan in the fight against COVID-19, especially during the lockdowns, by wearing masks and social distancing, in order to be part of the Kingdom's process of national healing.
During the ceremony, the Philippine flag was raised and a message of Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte addressed to his people was read.
