Senate President Faisal Fayez said Monday that "no one is above the authority of the state," and that there will be no political, economic and social development without security and stability.
He spoke during a meeting with tribal political and social figures and representatives of professional associations and the youth sector in the Northern, Southern and Central Badia regions, as part of a series of dialogues he is holding at the level of the governorates to discuss key national challenges and issues.
Fayez said that the tribe is the most important component of Jordanian society, noting the contribution of Jordanian tribes to building the nation's institutions and strength and enhancing an inclusive national identity.
Referring to recent riots over the expulsion of a Lower House MP, Fayez said that "certain quarters were seeking to sow discord among the members of the one society," calling for countering such attempts through solidifying the home front, preserving social fabric, unifying national identity, rallying behind the Hashemite leadership and defending the country and its capabilities.
Fayez also called for standing firm against "hate speech, fanaticism, sedition and regionalism, and against anyone attempting to tamper with our social fabric, values, morals and traditions."
The Senate chief also tackled other key national woes, including the legislation regulating political life and addressing economic challenges, rising poverty and unemployment and revamping public administration.
There is a genuine will to move forward with comprehensive reform, he said, noting that a committee will be formed to deal with all areas of political, economic, administrative and social reform, based on the Discussion Papers of His Majesty the King, to come up with solutions to the various challenges.
Participants in the meeting reaffirmed that Jordanian tribes stand behind His Majesty King Abdullah II, reiterating their allegiance to the country and its leadership, and calling for translating the King's vision of political participation through revisiting legislations governing political life and adopting policies with deadlines and clear goals to address economic challenges.
They also urged fighting corruption and empowering the youth to bring them into the political process.
