FM, Palestinian counterpart

Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi discussed, Sunday, with his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad Al-Maliki, joint coordination and consultation to launch an effective international action to end the occupation and achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The two sides underlined that the dangerous escalation in Jerusalem and elsewhere across the occupied Palestinian territories as well as the aggression on Gaza indicate that it is impossible for the occupation to continue.

They added that the Palestinian cause is the root of the conflict in the region which will not enjoy a just peace without a solution that fulfills all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, namely their right to freedom and an independent and sovereign state with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital, on the June 4, 1967 lines.

During the meeting, Safadi stressed the importance of the success of the international and regional efforts that brought about an end to the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the agreement to a ceasefire, pointing to the 'great efforts' exerted by Egypt.

The Kingdom, he added, will continue to devote its energy to protecting Jerusalem, its Islamic and Christian sanctities, and the legal and historical status quo, which is a top priority for their custodian, His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Al-Maliki commended the Kingdom's efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, to stop the Israeli attacks and violations against the Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the aggression on Gaza, and the active Jordanian role in supporting the Palestinian people and their rights. He also praised Jordan for the aid it provided to meet the humanitarian and medical needs in Gaza.

The two ministers underscored the continuation of joint work and coordination in order to protect the rights of the people of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, highlighting the need for the international community to take responsibility and prevent Israel from committing the war crime of displacement.

The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation to address the illegal Israeli practices that undermine the peace process, and to communicate with the international community to formulate an effective international position against these practices, provide protection for the Palestinian people, and come up with real political prospects to achieve the two-state solution.
