Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, participated on Tuesday, in the meeting of the Arab League in its extraordinary session at the level of foreign ministers, Petra reported.

Held virtually, the meeting came at a joint invitation from Jordan and Palestine, to discuss Arab, international action to confront the Israeli aggressions and violations in Jerusalem, Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.

Safadi said Jerusalem is the top Arab cause, adding that comprehensive peace can't be achieved without its liberation, as the eternal capital of the Palestinian state, which should be free, independent and sovereign, along the June 4, 1967 lines, according to Petra.

Continuing: "Jerusalemites stood in the face of injustice, revolted in defense of their rights in their homes, their holy sites, and to a free and dignified life. Jordan stands by them, with all its capabilities, in facing aggression, in protecting rights, and in defending Islamic and Christian holy sites and their identity."

Jordanians and Palestinians shared defense of Jerusalem and all Palestine, and the rights of the Palestinian people to freedom, independence, and a sovereign state, he said.
Addressing the meeting, Safadi added: Defending Palestine, and its sanctities remains the supreme task, which His Majesty King Abdullah II, custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, harnesses all Jordan's capabilities for this purpose.

Describing Israel's practices as " illegal, inhuman and immoral," in its latest wave of escalation and tension on Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, His Majesty has led "intense" Jordanian movements and contacts, in coordination with Palestine, to crystallize an "effective" international effort to stop Israel's violations and protect the brotherly Palestinian people and their rights, Safadi told his Arab counterparts.

Jordan, Safadi said, will continue to work with Palestinian leaders, and Arab countries and partners in the international community, in moves aimed to put an end to Israel's aggression and its illegal practices, and protect security and stability in the entire region from its consequences.
As for Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, Safadi said Palestinian citizens have a "clear" right to live in their homes, adding that depriving its residents of their right would be a war crime that the international community should not allow.

As the occupying power, the Israeli authorities are requested under international law to respect the rights of Palestinians in their homes, he said, noting Jordan delivered to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) all the documents in its possession, which prove the ownership of Palestinian citizens in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in their homes, he said.

The Kingdom, he said, has contacted all decision-making capitals to demand an "effective" international position that prevents Israel from committing this "clear" violation of international law.

Warning of the "catastrophic" repercussions of the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, he said Jerusalem Al-Haram Al Sharif's 144- dunum area is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims.

The Kingdom, he noted, will continue to make every effort to protect the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of sanctities, and to preserve Jerusalem's existing historical and legal status quo.
