Ammon News - Jordan's ambassador to London and Ireland, Omar Nahar, underlined the importance of Jordanian food industries sector as "strategic," which represents 25.9% of the net value added to the industrial economy.

Speaking during his participation in the virtual seminar organized by the Jordanian- Irish Business Association (JIBA) in partnership with the Irish Embassy in Amman, Wednesday, the diplomat highlighted the cooperation prospects in the field of food sector trade between Jordan and Ireland.

Nahar said: "In the light of cooperation with our Irish friends, we can benefit from the new agricultural technologies and initiatives of the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority (IAFDA)," noting that according to data going back a few years ago, the industrial agricultural sectors in the Kingdom provide 6.3% of the gross domestic product GDP.

Jordan's food exports amounted to more than half a billion dinars, of which 75% go to the Arab markets and 25% to the North American and European markets. In total, they represent 10.2% of industrial exports, official statistics showed.

Nahar expressed his thanks to the JIBA and the Irish Ambassador in Amman, Vincent O'Neill, for organizing this event, adding that progress and development in these basic and vital sectors depends on a "dynamic" private sector.

On his part, O'Neill said this symposium represents a "great" opportunity to develop trade in the food sector between Jordan and Ireland, and to discover export and supply opportunities between the two countries.
