NATO Secretary General hails long-standing partnership with Jordan

Ahmad Al Hamad - NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed His Majesty King Abdullah II at NATO Headquarters, NATO reported.

In congratulating King Abdullah II on the first century of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Secretary General Stoltenberg pointed out that Jordan is “a very close and important partner of NATO.” “Our forces have served together side by side in the Balkans, in Afghanistan, over Libya, and Jordanian troops also participate in the NATO Response Force,” he said. “We also provide support to Jordan, help to improve border security, countering improvised explosive devices”. He highlighted that “Allies have also decided to step up and deliver some more personal protective equipment, and also some ventilators to further step up the support for Jordan” in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Secretary General Stoltenberg also underlined the importance of the joint work of NATO Allies and Jordan in the global fight against international terrorism, as the NATO reported.

The Secretary General and Kind Abdullah II discussed ways to further strengthen NATO-Jordan relations and regional security developments, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

For his Part, His Majesty King Abdullah II said that " I appreciate, on behalf of Jordan and our armed forces, a special relationship between NATO and our country, appreciating the support that NATO provides to Jordan especially the challenges of COVID".

His Majesty added that there are challenges in our region, stating that Jordanians will again shoulder the responsibility, shoulder to shoulder with NATO on many of the challenges that we have.

King Abdullah concluded stating that "the relationship between our organizations will actually allow us to overcome a lot of the challenges as we come out of a COVID pandemic challenge around the world".
